Intel Corp, the world's largest manufacturer of semiconductor products has announced the acquisition of Mashery Inc, the start up based out of Francisco. The acquisition cost US$180 million.
Mashery is in the business of providing technological solutions in application programming interfaces or API. These services are delivered to well-known brands such as USA Today, Comcast, Klout, Hoover's, Associated Press, Travelocity and Rdio. API are pieces of coding and other specifications that assist in software development. This is another step by the manufacturer to shore up its software creation business.
APIs include routines, tools and protocols in creating software applications. Good API software helps in the development of the software in providing all the necessary components that can later on be put together by the programmer.
On the other hand, Intel sells microchips used in server systems that share information with smartphones and other wireless devices. Mashery provides the tools used by software developers to make user interface and interaction possible.
