The beloved Lucy Lawless action-drama series 'Xena' will have a reboot at NBC, as what recent reports claimed. According to The Hollywood Reporter, NBC and NBC Universal International are prepping a reboot of 'Xena: Warrior Princess'. And it is said that a search for series writer is underway.
Additionally, THR sources revealed that 'Xena' 2.0 is perfect this season because many shows are featuring lots of strong female characters. And, the new Xena will have the charisma of Katniss Everdeen of 'The Hunger Games'.
The speculations were put to silent when actress Lucy Lawless has shared on her Twitter account that the 'Xena: Warrior Princess' reboot news are only rumors. And it is still in "wishful thinking stage." Despite that, the actress herself is eager to make it happen, according to Deadline.
In fact, in a recent interview with HitFlix at Comic-Con, she said that is she pitching to make the reboot happen. She is also vocal about reprising her role in the series, even though she was killed in the series finale.
"I don't know what the hold-up is; it's about who has got the rights," she added. "But that's a piss-poor excuse anymore. Find who has got the rights, freakin' pay it. It's better to have 80 percent of something than 100 percent of nothing. Don't waste this opportunity; reinvigorate that franchise!" Lawless said.
The original series was produced by Studios USA and international producers Universal Worldwide Television and was distributed by Universal Television. 'Xena' ran in syndication for six seasons from September 1995 to June 2001. The show was filmed at rural New Zealand with 134 episodes. and originally started as a spinoff from Hercules.
