Kate Winslet and Liam Hemsworth share a steamy snog in the first trailer for the Australian film "The Dressmaker". Universal Pictures' forthcoming comedy drama is slated to open in cinemas this October 22.
"The Dressmaker" follows the successful dress designer Myrtle "Tilly" Dunnag's return to her hometown in Australia to take care of her ailing mother. Played by "Titanic" and "Divergent" franchise actress Kate Winslet, Tilly transforms the townspeople with her remarkable seamstress skills. In doing so, she gets sweet revenge on everyone who falsely accused her of murdering a young boy in the past. In the midst of this, she reconciles with her mother who is played by "To Rome with Love" actress Judy Davis, and suddenly falls in love with Liam Hemsworth's pure-hearted character, Teddy McSwiney.
The film serves a refreshing break on Hollywood's romcom flicks which usually feature what Marie Claire describes as the "Old-Man-Young-Girlfriend" problem. Hemsworth might be 15 years younger than his 39-year-old opposite in the movie, but the "The Hunger Games" actor seems naturally satisfying in portraying Winslet's love interest. In fact, his intimate scene with the actress has become one of the most interesting things the fans are looking forward to see in the upcoming flick.
The rest of the incredible cast includes Hugo Weaving Caroline Goodall, Shane Bourne, Kerry Fox, Rebecca Gibney, Sacha Horler, Shane Jacobson, Alison Whyte, Genevieve Lemon, and Sarah Snook. It is helmed by Australian director Jocelyn Moorhouse who is best known for her works in "A Thousand Actres," "How to Make an American Quilt" and "Proof". Moorhouse also penned the film alongside husband and award-winning writer-director Paul John Hogan, based on Rosalie Ham's best-selling novel of the same name.
Universal Pictures is expected to release "The Dressmaker" in Australia and New Zealand on October 22. However, there is still no specific date for its U.S. premiere.
