Another effect of the Boston Bombing episode is not just the death of three people and over 170 injured was felt halfway around the world.
Spanish company Fagor Group, the manufacturer of one of the pressure cookers used in the bombing is bearing the brunt of the negative publicity brought by the bombing incident. It is in the process of seeking financing, needing about Eur60 million in order to pare down its outstanding debt. It is currently struggling because of the recession in Spain, according to a source who spoke on condition of anonymity.
The company is based in Mondragon, Spain, a Basque region in the country. On an average year, Fagor sells about 200,000 pressure cookers a year in the United States and has 40% market share. According to Elena Goirizelaia, spokeswoman for Fagor's domestic appliance unit, many of the sold pressure cookers were used to make one of the bombs and cost just about US$140.
US investigators have identified Fagor as one of the pressure cookers used in the bombing. The bombs were packed into the pressure cookers containing explosives, nails, pellets and shrapnel to cause the destruction.
