Chris Brown Delayed In The Philippines Facing Fraud Accusation. Is He Guilty?

Chris Brown was prevented from leaving the Philippines after performing in a packed concert. The Grammy winning R&B artist was stalled on Wednesday afternoon and is facing fraud allegation relating to a cancelled New Year's Eve concert.

After performing in a packed concert last Tuesday night, Grammy winning artis Chris Brown was preparing to leave from Manila when advised by the show's promoters to stay at his room at Nobu Hotel in City of Dreams. He has been delayed from leaving the Philippines because of a dispute over his contract, the Philippines News Agency (PNA) has claimed.

Brown and his promoter John Michael Pio Roda were added to the bureau's "lookout bulletin" by the Department of Justice, after a request of Maligaya Development Corp. (MDC) and the religious group Iglesia Ni Cristo (INC).

The Bureau of Immigration spokeswoman, Elaine Tan, said that a lookout bulletin was not on its own a bar to departure, unlike a hold departure order. According to her the justice department order directs the bureau to take prudent steps to verify on the status of the criminal case against the subjects.

Tan said: "If the concerned agency raises no objection to the departure, then we will allow the subject to leave."

The complaint against Brown stemmed from a New Year's Eve show he cancelled at Philippine Arena in Ciudad de Victoria, Bocaue in Bulacan, organized by the religious organization Iglesia ni Cristo (INC). He was supposed to be the main act in the "2015 Philippine Countdown," which featured local artists and a pyro-musical display. Brown had claimed that he lost his passport a day before his supposed flight to Manila from Los Angeles for the concert.

The legal counsel of Iglesia ni Kristo (INC) is pursuing to file a case of Estafa or Fraud against Brown and Roda.

A spokesperson for Brown said that the incident was a misunderstanding that has since been resolved, adding that would Brown would fly to Hong Kong tomorrow. But Brown was still in the country Thursday evening and had not applied for the emigration clearance he needs to leave Manila. Brown expressed his frustration in a profanity-laced video posted on instagram but was eventually removed.

Aside from his Hong Kong concert on Wednesday night, he has performances scheduled in Macau, Beirut, Cyprus, and the Netherlands. He announced on his Twitter account that he had rescheduled his July 25 concert in Jakarta due to some safety concerns.
