Onexim Group, which is owned by Russian billionaire Mikhail Prokhorov, has said it may consider the purchase of a 10.7% share in OAO Rostelcom, the fixed line operator from Marshall Capital. This decision comes after the fund cancelled its deal with Arkady Rotenberg.
According to Onexim CEO Dmitry Razumov, "We are interested in buying the stake from Konstantin Malofeev but talks were stopped by the deal with Rotenberg. We may still consider it if the opportunity presents itself."
Marshall annulled the sale of its shareholdings in Rostelecom last April 10 after there was a failure to agree on the final terms of the deal that was announced last February. Before discussion with Rotenberg, Malofeev's Marshall Fund was already in discussion with Onexim over the sale.
Razumov said that the other assets of Onexim, such as OOO Renaissance Credit and OAO RBC among others 'could have synergies with Rostelecom.' OAO RBC operates a TV channel and operates other Internet assets.
