A VentureBeat report was confirmed by Reuters of the disclosed plans of CA Technologies to acquire Layer7. CA Technologies later confirmed the transaction through a press release but terms of the acquisition wer not disclosed by either companies.
Layer7 was founded back in 2003 and the startup has been able to raise approximately US$20 million from Shoreline Venture Management, BDC Venture Capital and GrowthWorks Capital. The company's focus for revenues is providing "building blocks" to corporations so the public would know their internal dealings through an pplication programming interface or API program.
At present, Layer7 employs approximately 165 individuals at their offices located in Washington, DC, Australia, Canada and the United Kingdom.
A spokesperson for CA told VentureBeat through an email, "This enables us to extend our leading Mobility, Security and DevOps value proposition by liberating developers to securely connect applications to cloud services, expose internal information assets to mobile apps and bridge departments and partners all under a consistent security policy."
CA was formerly known as Computer Associates and is a corporation that provides information technology management solutions for its clientele.
