Warburg Pincus has recently announced its purchase of a less than majority shareholdings in INEA, the cable service provider from Poland. The infusion from the private equity group would provide funds for the acquisition and assist in the expansion of the network.

INEA is the fourth biggest cable operator in Poland and the Warburg investment would assist in increasing its reach for high speed broadband services in the country, escpecially in the Western region of Wielkopolska. The funds would also help in the financing of a partnership with the local government in the construction of a 4,000 kilometer fiber optic line and distribution network.

According to Paul Best, a managing director at Warburg Pincus, as related to Reuters,

"Overall broadband penetration in Poland is significantly behind where it is in western European countries. It is in long-term structural growth and over time we expect it to catch up. There is a long-term ambition to expand the network all the way across the province and they need capital to do that."
