Fans of Wayward Pines have a reason to be excited. The novel trilogy condensed into a ten episode series plot ended with a loose and a squeaker finale, suggesting the show is open to a sequel. In an interview with Deadline Hollywood, the executive producer and director M. Night Shyalmalan did not directly disclosed a second season. However, he mentioned the overwhelming feedbacks of the fans to the show had him and novel's author Blake Crouch developed stories and concept if Wayward Pines Season 2 will materialize.
Although Shyalmalan revealed his discussion with Blake on furthering the story, he was careful on not giving specifics on the story for the possible season two of the show. Fox has confirmed that it is open to the concept of renewing the show for the second season and preliminary discussions has been formed, but had not established any shooting or premiere dates yet according to an interview with Entertainment Weekly.
With the speculation of a season two, several fan sites hypothesized on a possible story line of the season two show. Viewers can follow on Ben's decision to attempt to end the "big brother" scrutiny and follow his father's track, or go along with it. Viewers might also see more of Kate, Pam, and Theresa.
Season finale 1 ended with the death of Ethan Burke (Matt Dillon) after "almost" uncovering the reality of the Wayward Pines, Idaho and saved a number of the remaining humans. David Pilcher (Toby Jones), tagged as the savior of humanity, closed down the power switch of the town's superstructure sacrificing humanity over greed of power, providing access to the Abberations or "Abbies", the modified and savage version of humans, and infiltrated the town's protective fence, killing many on their way. The series closed with Ben Burke (Charlie Tahan) awaken in a safeguarded town with the sense of continuity despite the uncertainties.
