The state run Telekom Srbijia AD is not under any immediate plans to be sold off by the Serbian government. This announcement was made amidst the many reports of buyers interested over the asset.
The main issue is the lack of an asset selling policy in place for the Serbian government. The nine month old Cabinet of Serbian Prime Minister Ivica Dacic has not discussed a sale of the Serbian telecommunications firm. What is sure is that there are no definite plans to sell the company 'at the moment', according to Finance Minister Mladjan Dinkic during an interview with reporters in Belgrade.
Dinkic added, "There is some interest in Telekom Srbija, from two or three sides, but we must first sit down and see what we plan to do with public companies and if and where we plan to divest."
Amongst the parties interested are AFK Sistema of Russia, Emirates Telecommunications Corp or Etisalat of Abu Dhabi, UAE and another unnamed US telecommunications firm. The list of bidders were enumerated in a report from Belgrade daily Blic, who cited an unidentified government official.
