From July 27 to September 23, Sony will conduct the Sony Testing Android Concept UI Based on Android 5.1 Lollipop in Sweden. Those chosen Swedish Xperia Z3 owners will experience testing the new Sony Xperia Android software. This initiative by the Japanese smartphone maker aims to improve "Sony Mobile's overall Android experience first and foremost."
The xperiablog shares that the Sony Testing Android Concept UI Based on Android 5.1 Lollipop has been made as a response to feedback from users. Furthermore, the blog post also said that Sony describes the Concept for Android as having a "stripped back, vanilla Android look and feel, with native Sony features and apps we find most popular amongst our users." The new UI is based on Android 5.1 Lollipop.
As part of the initiative, said the testers would be allowed by Sony to run early builds of a new version of an Android 5.1 Lollipop-based UI, which Sony says has been developed "from the ground up" without additional Google Play apps like YouTube. The edge is close to stock Android and would comprise the company-made apps like music, Camera, Music, Xperia Lounge, and major Google apps such as Google+ and Maps.
One previous report said that releasing the builds purport to study the users' needs and adapting as per feedback provided. According to NDTV Gadgets, the participants are expected to share their experiences to provide the company a better understanding of how the software can be improved."
Moreover, it was reported that the program Sony Testing Android Concept UI Based on Android 5.1 Lollipop will help the company to assess the potential of running wider Android operating system concept initiatives for more markets, devices and users in the future.
The company also perceives the shift towards a model that allows for the creation of experiences with real user input, while adopting more transparent and open workflows will eventually enable them to respond to users' needs quicker and easier."
The Sony Testing Android Concept UI Based on Android 5.1 Lollipop will reportedly be limited to 500 Xperia Z3 customers. It is not yet clear as to when the firm would start rolling out the new updated UI. Lastly, Sony is being particular of not allowing consumers to unlock the bootloader on new devices including Sony Xperia Z3+, Xperia C4, Xperia Z4 Tablet and Xperia M4 Aqua for now.
