Mirabaud & Cie Opens M&A Unit

By

The Swiss private wealth manager and fund broker Mirabaud & Cie is opening up a mergers and acquisitions advisory group. This is in preparation for the rebound when the European market gets out of its current deal making environment doldrums.

The team would be based out of London and headed by Maneksh Dattani, Ian Macfarlane, Paul Schultz and Nicolas Thum. All four were former partners of Europa Partners, an advisory boutique firm.

According to Macfarlane, "For us, it's a boutique-plus strategy. Being attached to a larger group with a European footprint is a more powerful offering than a standalone boutique."

This is a year where mergers and acquisitions worldwide have been flat compared to 2012. Many companies remain cautious because of the current economic conditions. According to Thomson Reuters data, Europe's M&A market has fell 28% compared to 2012. This is the landscape despite the large deals being done in the United States in the past year.
