The Taiwan based company HTC confirmed that they will pass on the upcoming Android 5.1.1 Lollipop update for their flagship HTC One M8. An executive from the company said that they will have to pass on the update and will go with the Android M instead for their One M8 and upcoming phones.
IBTimes reported that the confirmation came straight from HTC's VP for product management, Mo Versi, confirming the news, via tweeter, that the M8 will get the Android M update instead of the 5.1.1. The move surprised everyone considering that HTC equipped their current flagship handsets HTC One M9 and the HTC One M9+.
The last time HTC One M8 got an update was in March when US carriers released the update for the Android 5.0 Lollipop, the 5.0.2. The Android M update is expected to address the HTC One M8's lingering issues such as Bluetooth connectivity and battery life.
Although the Android 5.1.1 brings tons of things in the plate, the Android M is expected to bring the cutting edge features such as the app drawer and the rotating home screen. Aside from the app drawer and rotating home screen, MasterHerald wrote that Google is also looking at the possibility of making their fingerprint scanners standard in all their future operating systems. If Google will push through with this, Android M, most likely will be the first of them.
The Android M will also feature Google's Android Pay which basically makes a purchase in Google Play Store more convenient by eliminating the to and from process of paying. The Google Pay is like a One Stop Shop payment for purchases. These are just some of the many offering that Android M will give come its release date.
At this point, Google is currently developing the Android M and is expected to be released this coming October or November as a pre-installed operating system for Google's upcoming Nexus 2015. The Android M will be officially released to the market sometime next year and expected to roll out for HTC One M8.
