T-Mobile has not yet released the Android 5.1.1 Lollipop over-the-air (OTA) update for its Samsung Galaxy S6 users but custom ROM developers have managed to pull off a stock firmware based on the Lollipop update for yearning fans.
Unlocking Android 5.1.1 Lollipop seems to be the fuss these days in the tech department as Android fanatics are getting excited what it has to offer more so 5.1.1 is reported to be the final update of Lollipop. Since it is a custom release, interested Galaxy S6 users can receive the update by manually installing it using Odin custom ROM. However, rooted devices cannot be updated using Odin unless preinstalled custom ROM or recovery software will be ditched.
Qualified T-Mobile users are those phones with model code SM-G920T. The Android 5.1.1 Lollipop Odin custom ROM brings enhancements in battery life and RAM management. The installation comes with major bug fixes, lower ISO value for third-party camera apps and RAW support.
Before venturing into the installation of the stock firmware, Odin developers noted Galaxy S6 owners under T-Mobile to back up personal files and data saved since the update will wipe out the device's entire storage including music, apps, and pictures, among others.
Make sure the device's battery life is charged up to 80 percent. Users also have to install first USB drivers for Galaxy S6 on PC while debugging must be enabled on the phone.
On top of it all, developers warned users who want to install the Android 5.1.1 Lollipop update via Odin that it will be risky since it will void its warranty to both Samsung and T-Mobile.
To finally install the update through Odin custom ROM, here's a good way to go:
1. Download Android 5.1.1 Lollipop update for T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S6.
2. Extract the zip file.
3. Download Odin.
4. Extract zip file.
5. Run Odin as an Administrator.
6. Shut down device.
7. Turn it on to Download Mode.
8. Use the USB cable to connect to Galaxy S6.
9. Add the Android 5.1.1 file to Odin.
10. Disable Re-Partition.
11. Select Auto Reboot and Factory Reset Time.
12. Click Start button in Odin.
Before unplugging the device from PC, wait for the installation until completed. The device will shut down and reboot automatically.
To check if the update is successfully installed, head over to Settings > About device > System update > Check for update. The new firmware code should now be G920TUVU2COF8.
