Warner Bros. has revealed a new trailer for "Black Mass", featuring Johnny Depp as the most powerful and feared gangster in Boston, James "Whitey" Bulger. The upcoming crime film is scheduled to hit theaters on September 18.

Set in 1970s South Boston, the film follows the story of the unholy alliance between the FBI Agent, John Conolly, and the Winter Hill gang leader, James "Whitey" Bulger, to get rid of a common enemy -the Italian mob. This partnership spirals out of control, resulting for the Irish-American gangster to evade law enforcement, consolidate power and become the most ruthless and powerful gangster in Boston history.

Played by Johnny Depp, the trailer features how Bulger became one of FBI's 10 most wanted while showcasing its star-studded cast which includes "Sherlock" star Benedict Cumberbatch, "Exodus: Gods and Kings" actor Joel Edgerton, and Dakota Johnson ("Fifty Shades of Grey"). Kevin Bacon ("X-Men: First Class"), Sienna Miller ("Foxcatcher"), Jesse Plemons ("Battleship"), Peter Sarsgaard ("The Killing") and Corey Stoll ("Ant-Man") are also appearing in the upcoming film.

The upcoming crime flick is adapted from Dick Lehr and Gerard O'Neill's book "Black Mass: The True Story of an Unholy Alliance between the FBI and the Irish Mob". Scott Cooper directed the film from a screenplay penned by Mark Mallouk and Jez Butterworth. The film serves as Johnny Depp's fine return to the big screen after his not-so-well-received most recent flicks including "Transendence", "The Lone Ranger", and "Mortdecai".

In real life, Depp's Whitey has eluded a global manhunt after he left Boston and went into hiding in 1995. He was captured in Santa Monica in 2011 and was convicted in 2013 with 11 counts of murders, drug trafficking, money laundering, extortion and other criminal offenses. He was then imprisoned for two life sentences and additional five years by a federal judge.

James "Whitey" Bulger's biopic, "Black Mass", is slated to open in cinemas on September 18.
