Neill Blomkamp has already begun working on the upcoming "Alien 5", finally taking the directorial baton from its original helmer, Ridley Scott. But both filmmakers are still collaborating to avoid overlaps with the latter's "Prometheus 2". The fifth installment of the "Alien" franchise is likely to be released in 2017.
The moviegoers will be provided with more Alien-themed films soon. Apart from 20th Century Fox's "Predator" reboot, the studio is also bringing "Prometheus 2" and "Alien 5" to the big screen. It may be heavenly for the sci-fi enthusiasts, some fans are also skeptical about its simultaneous development. Considering Ridley Scott's history in the "Alien" franchise, some thinks that both flicks may result to similar storyline and twists. However, the director of the next installment, Neill Blomkamp, has assured the viewers that there will be no overlaps between the movies.
Despite the film's connection to one another, the director reportedly promised that the "Prometheus" and "Alien" sequels are going to be separate and independent. According to Master Herald, he has been specifically coordinating with the latter's director to make sure that both films will provide distinct yet remarkable movie experience to its fans. This means that they will feature the deadly creatures in different lights.
"Alien 5" has already started its pre-production on March, with Blomkamp in the director's seat. As per Crossmap's report, the fifth installment will be a direct sequel to Scott's "Alien" and James Cameron's "Aliens". Series' lead actress Sigourney Weaver is rumored to return as Ellen Ripley and face the feared Xenomorph once again. Though her return is all but confirmed for now, many speculate that the studio will make it official soon.
Meanwhile, Ridley's "Prometheus 2" will reportedly commence its filming this fall for a March 2016 premiere. As for Blomkamp's yet to be titled "Alien 5," there is no release date set for now but it is most likely to be released by 2017.
