'Men in Black' franchise star Tommy Lee Jones has officially boarded the cast of "Bourne 5" as a high-ranking CIA Agent. The yet to be titled fifth installment of the "Bourne" franchise which will see Matt Damon's return is tentatively set for a July 2016 release.
The long-running action thriller franchise "Bourne" has recently added another A-list star for its next installment. Variety has confirmed that the Academy Award-winning actor Tommy Lee Jones has signed on to appear in the initially titled sequel, "Bourne 5". The 68-year-old actor is slated to play the role of a superior officer at the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA).
Jones is best known for his roles in "Captain America: The First Avenger", "Lincoln", "The Fugitive" and the "Men in Black" films. He most recently appeared in "The Horseman", which according to Christian Today, he also wrote and directed. Jones will now be joining series returnee, Matt Damon "Ex Machina" star Alicia Vikander will also appear in the upcoming sequel for an undisclosed role along with Julia Stiles ("The Prince and Me") who is reprising her role as CIA Agent Nicky Parson.
"Bourne Supremacy" and "Bourne Ultimatum" helmer Paul Greengrass will direct the film based on the script he co-wrote along with Christopher Rouse. Frank Marshall is producing with Greengrass, Damon, Greg Goodman, and Ben Smith, while Rouse and Henry Morrison will executive produce. The fifth film marks Damon and Greengrass' return to the franchise who both sat out of "Bourne Legacy"..
The "Bourne" franchise is noted to have grossed over $1 million worldwide at the box office. Its first film, "Bourne Identity", first premiered in 2002. It was followed by two more sequels, "Bourne Supremacy" and "Bourne Ultimatum, in 2004 and 2007. The fourth installment was launched in 2012, and starred "The Avengers" star Jeremy Renner as the Jason Bourne-esque, Aaron Cross.
"Bourne 5" is already set to begin filming later this summer for a July 29, 2016 release.
