Angelina Jolie is coming back for "Maleficent 2." The Disney's 2014 smash hit movie of the villainous fairy is ramping up a development.
Angelina Jolie is expected to reprise her role as Maleficent, the goodhearted fairy who turned evil after getting disdained by a childhood friend. Despite the fact that she has not officially signed on, Disney is confident in her return.
According to The Wrap, Disney has engaged Linda Woolverton to write the sequel. Woolverton is currently working on the script of "Alice Through the Looking Glass," the sequel to the 2010 fantasy film "Alice In Wonderland," also from Disney. The report also mentioned that Joe Roth will once again work as the sequel's producer, but director Robert Stromberg will probably not helm "Maleficent 2."
If the Academy award winning actress Jolie signs on "Maleficent 2" in an official capacity, it would be a major change of heart for the actress. She is known to be an actor who do not make a sequel of anything. She has turned down offers for reprising both "Salt" and "Wanted."
The humanitarian Angelina Jolie recently told through interviews that she plans to give up acting. She revealed that she have never been comfortable as an actor and never loved being in front of the camera. However, the actress clarified those remarks to by saying she has a few more projects on the horizon before she steps behind the camera, rather than in front of it, for good.
Jolie said: "I see myself moving into directing more and doing much less as an actor. I have a few more in me, ones I have been developing for some time, so I will do those before I step away."
Upcoming projects for Jolie include her next directorial effort of an adaptation of "First they Killed My Father: A Daughter of Cambodia Remembers." The film will be based on Loung Ung's memoir of her experiences during the Khmer Rouge regime as a child. She is also rumored to be reprising her voice role in the third Kung Fu Panda film.
Disney is definitely hoping that "Maleficent 2" will make the cut for movies she is willing to do before giving up acting to direct.
