The former Manchester United defender, Denis Irwin backed new singing Memphis Depay. The star player said Depay can make a big impact at Old Trafford as Irwin suggested he can bend it like David Beckham this season.
Memphis Depay became Manchester United's first signing of the summer in May and has already shown his early signs of his skills during pre- season, scoring against the San Jose Earthquakes during the U.S. tour.
Irwin said in ManUtd, "I think Memphis could match Becks in that sense. I saw him score a few goals last year for PSV and I think he will be a big addition to our team." He also said that he has no doubt that Depay has his own talent and players like that are rare to find," as mentioned by Mirror UK.
He continued by saying, "His records will tell you that, even though he's young, he's a goal scorer as well, having scored 28 goals in Holland last year." Irwin also pressed about how good Depay is at finishing and that he's sure that he will be a good player for the team.
The 21- year old player joined Manchester United alongside Morgan Schneiderlin, Bastian Schweinsteiger, Matteo Darmian, and Sergio Romero this summer for £25 million following his lead for Dutch Champions PSV Eindhoven in the previous season, as mentioned in Manchester United's official site. His new team referred him as the new dead- ball expert, just like Beckham and Irwin were in their spells at Old Trafford. He even told the team that Depay could match the former United superstar player David Beckham in that sense.
Moreover, The Week said that Irwin believes that the five new additions to the team would make the team even stronger than it was before. He even stated that he's impressed with Matteo Darmian's full- back position and he feels United has already given its options ahead of the next season. He also mentioned Schneiderlin's great few years as a player at Southampton and Schweinsteiger being a serial winner since he's won a number of Bundesliga titles.
Although Irwin's very proud of his new team players, Irwin still thinks that everything else is unpredictable at this very moment, but the records and skills of the new signing players will definitely show how good and how unique these players are in the Manchester United.
