Ridley Scott may head into production on "Prometheus 2" without any Xenomorph. The "Alien 5" director aims to release the film this 2017 with Lead stars Noomi Rapace and Michael Fassbender reprising their roles.
There may have been a lot of talks about a sequel to Ridley Scott's "Prometheus" after its premiered back on 2012. But, many fans did not think that it would still be pushed through, especially after Neill Blomkamp's "Alien 5" was confirmed. However, it seems like the 77-year-old filmmaker is finally bringing the long-rumored sequel to the big screen soon as he may reportedly commence its production soon.
In the September Issue of Total Film Magazine (via Scified), Scott has expressed his revamped interest in returning to the science fiction genre. "I've got back into the science-fiction thing," he told the magazine. "I kind of adore it." Also buried in the profile of the director, was somehow an exposé of what might be his next film. The magazine claims "he begins shooting Prometheus 2 in January."
Though the plot is still unknown, the Guardian reports that Noomi Rapac ("The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo") and Michael Fassbender ("X-Men: Days of the Future Past") are both slated to reprise their respective roles of Elizabeth Shaw and David. The outlet also claims that the director has already confirmed the absence of the iconic xenomorph. Instead, the sequel will center more on the home planet of the engineers who were introduced in the 2012 film.
Simultaneously, Scott will also be executive producing Neill Blomkamp's yet to be titled "Alien" movie which will reportedly feature lead actress' Sigourney Weaver's return; as well as the "Blade Runner" sequel. Scott has also committed to helm the 'El Chapo' movie, "The Cartel" but many predict the sci-fi sequel will likely take off first.
