Anne Hathaway and Robert De Niro share an extraordinary and unlikely friendship in Nancy Meyers upcoming comedy "The Intern."
Warner Bros has released the trailer of their latest comedy movie from writer/director Nancy Meyers. Starring Oscar winner Anne Hathaway and seasoned actor Robert De Niro, the newest duo will show a whole new world in the realm of "The Intern."
The 32-year-old actress portrays an e-commerce fashion CEO named Jules Ostin who reluctantly takes on the 70 year old retired widower Ben Whittaker, played by the 71-year-old De Niro. The pair form a friendship after Jules' skepticism of her aging intern gives way to respect.
De Niro's widowed character Ben has discovered that retirement isn't all it's cracked up to be. Seizing an opportunity to get back in the game, and became a senior intern at an online fashion site. In the trailer, he explained his unusual decision.
"In retirement, there's an ongoing relentless effort in creativity. I tried yoga, learned to cook, bought some plants, took classes in Mandarin - believe me, I've tried everything. I just know there's a hole in my life and I need to fill it. Soon."
Despite their awkward meeting with plenty of generation-gap jokes and shenanigans, Jules also is quite fond of Ben Whittaker: "The truth is, something about you makes me feel calm. More centered or something. I could use that, obviously." And initial awkwardness gives way to mutual respect
Shot in New York last year, the movie is directed by "What Women Want" and "Something's Gotta Give" Nancy Meyers. "The Intern" also stars Rene Russo, Anders Holm, Adam Devine, Andrew Rannells, Linda Lavin, Christina Scherer, Celia Weston, JoJo Kushner, Zack Pearlman, Jason Orley and Nat Wolff. It will open in theaters September 25.
Hathaway is also scheduled for "The Burning Woman," and will reprise the White Queen in "Alice Through the Looking Glass." De Niro is slated for "Bus 657" with Jeffrey Dean Morgan, "Joy" with Jennifer Lawrence and "Dirty Grandpa" with Zac Efron.
