'Divergent: Allegiant' star Shailene Woodley admitted that it was empowering to play her character Tris Prior. She revealed that she is more inspired by strong women in real life than fictitious Hollywood heroines.
According to TV3.ie, Woodley admitted that she didn't watch a lot of movies in her childhood years and derived action heroines from real women instead of Hollywood stars.
She said, "I remember studying Native Americans for a long time. There were a lot of Native American women that were really strong who fought for their tribes.... I guess Pocahontas was a representation of that. In a way, she was the character who was the face of that movement - but there were many other women I admired, too. Amelia Earhart is another. I love interesting women like that."
Her elemental need to turn to admirable women in American history helped her channel an equally strong protagonist in Beatrice 'Tris' Prior.
Woodley added that by playing Tris she was given the chance to represent her gender in the most empowering way. She said, "It feels great. Women in the world are strong. Women have a voice... Women have a lot to say and if I can be a tiny representative of that; if I can represent that voice in the smallest fashion, then that's a huge triumph."
The young American actress had quite the admiration for her fictional counterpart, most especially inner strength. In an article by Hypable, Woodley shared, "When something uncomfortable shows up on her doorstep, she doesn't turn around, she faces it front on regardless of how much discomfort it may cause and I definitely resonate with that."
Tris will reportedly carry yet another new look for the upcoming movie, according to MTV.com. Photos from the set in Atlanta, Georgia were recently shared online to give waiting fans a glimpse of the 'Divergent' series heroine. In contrast to her pixie cut from the previous movie 'Divergent: Insurgent', Woodley is seen sporting a chin-length hairstyle.
'Divergent: Allegiant' in an upcoming two-part finale for the 'Divergent Trilogy' featuring Shailene Woodley as Tris and Theo James as Four. It is a science-fiction adventure live-action adaptation of the young adult series of books by author Veronica Roth. The first part of the film will be released on March 18, 2016.
