Menezes is new Diageo CEO

The globe's largest spirits distiller, Diageo, has announced that Ivan Menezes would become the new Chief Executive Officer of the company replacing Paul Walsh. Prior to this appointment, Menezes was Diageo's Chief Operating Officer from March 2012 to the present.

Diageo PLC, whose brands include Johnnie Walker, Smirnoff and Guinness has issued a statement that the appointment of Menezes would become effective by July of this year. Walsh would be retiring from Diageo by June 2014 and from July to his retirement, he would assist the new CEO in learning the company as well as build and retain existing external relationships.

Walsh was at the helm of the company for 13 years. One of the highlights of his tenure was the purchase of a stake in the Indian drinks conglomerate United Spirits.

The company now has operating offices in eighty different countries as well as manufacturing facilities located in many key areas in Britain, North America, Africa and South America.
