Fans of Tekken and Street Fighter should hold on to their seats and wait for the exciting release of one of the coolest game mash-ups. It can be remembered that game producer, Katsuhiro Harada has announced at the San Diego Comic Con that Bandai Namco's collaboration of the Tekken and Street Fighter franchises, Tekken X Street Fighter, is still currently in development.
When a fan asked for an update regarding the Tekken X Street Fighter mash-up, Harada said that the fighting game crossover is "at a pretty far stage into its development." IGN quotes Harada saying, "I can't really say how we're aiming to surprise fans right now, but we've been playing around with many different areas." As for an article posted in GameSpot, they cited that there is a possibility that the team has been working on too much on their other titles such as Project Treasure, Pokken Tournament, and a virtual reality game called Summer Lesson, which is why they don't get to finish working on the Tekken X Street Fighter crossover.
The Tekken X Street Fighter mashup idea started as a joke in the fighting game community and the release of its companion, Street Fighter X Tekken had been announced way back in 2010. It went under hiatus in 2013 and now the production team lets us in on the progress of the crossover. Fast forward to now, and it seems like the game's production is already pretty far at this point. Shoryuken quotes Harada saying, "It might seem like we haven't started on it all, but the character lineup has been decided upon since a very long time ago. We've already finished the polygon models, moves, and systems." Harada also states that he and his team are still struggling as to when they should release Tekken X Street Fighter.
As of this moment, Harada hasn't divulge yet any information as to the cast in the game, but it seems okay to assume that Ryu of Street Fighter and Kazuya Mishima of Tekken will appear in the mashup as they have appeared in the game's promotional art. Harada tells the excited gamers that the game "is proceeding. It hasn't been canceled, so please relax."
