Despite the high ratings Dragon Ball Super receives, various anime critics and Japanese netizens still criticize the animation as appearing to be cheap and poorly made. Today may be the 21th century, but the Dragon Ball Super is not living up to its potential.
Crappy animation includes: Gohan had a hipster transformation while Krillin had himself a new hairstyle. Kotaku posted photos from Dragon Ball Super which revealed the characters' style alterations and the substandard animation quality.
In addition, Forbes stated that the Western and Asian audience provided the same criticism and feedback. Critics stated that the show looks like a work of amateur animators or something animator students draw during their final year in animation school. On the contrary, despite unsatisfactory feedback, the movie received a 100% rating from Rotten Tomatoes.
On the contrary, Dragon Ball Super is not receiving great animation feedbacks from viewers and fans alike, even though Akira Toriyama, creator of the series, supported the Dragon Ball Super very well, the show still looked like the production staff struggled from funding shortage due to the movie's result.
