US Patent and Trademark Office published patents on August 14 for Apple. It talks about two features for iPhones such as facial recognition and back up data. These patents are not available for current iPhones but Apple can possibly consider these to include in their future inventions.
The first patent is facial recognition which was initially introduced in 2013. The patent says that the iPhone users can have the capability to store their pictures and contact information on their own, instead of Apple's own servers, Motherboard reported. This ability lessens hackers to access private photos and contacts of the owner.
Another patent from US Patent and Trademark Office is the capability of iPhone users to back up important files when internet connection is interrupted, related news mentioned. The end user's phone can search nearby devices that have active Bluetooth, NFC, or other short-range protocols. Then, the data can be sent to compatible handsets to save them for the mean time. Once the iPhone is connected to the internet, the data can be restored in the original phone. Capabilities of the receiving device must be considered though, such as storage space, battery life, and the like for file transfer. The considerations are for successful safekeeping.
In addition, Business Insider said that the original user can receive notification on how long the data can stay on the iPhone where it was temporarily saved. This lowers the danger to gain access on the data from the other device.
The patents provided by UPTO give insights on what iPhones are capable with. It is Apple's decision if it will make these patents happen to their phones in the future.
US Patent and Trademark Office is believed as an agency that releases patents for various inventions, trademark, and intellectual property identification. Patents are sometimes used as a business strategy for competitors.
