Fans will stop asking "Scooby Dooby Doo, where are you?" in 2018 as Warner Bros. announced on Monday that Scooby-Doo will be returning to the big screen in an animated reboot on September 21, 2018.

The film reunites Oscar-nominated producers Charles Roven and Richard Suckle. They previously produced Warner Bros.' successful live-action features "Scooby-Doo" and "Scooby-Doo 2: Monsters Unleashed." Joining them is BAFTA Award-winning producer Allison Abbate who produced the Oscar-nominated features "Fantastic Mr. Fox," "Tim Burton's Corpse Bride" and "Frankenweenie."

Matt Lieberman wrote the film and will be directed by Tony Cervone. Cervone had worked with Shaggy and the gang in "Scooby-Doo! Mystery Incorporated." Renowned animation icon Dan Povenmire ("Phineas and Ferb") will also bring his creative sensibilities to the production as an executive producer.

Greg Silverman, Warner Bros. president of creative development, said that the film may lead the way to a big-screen revival for other Hanna-Barbera cartoons.

Silverman said in a statement: "Like countless fans, I have always loved the Hanna-Barbera cast of characters. As one of their most famous brand ambassadors, Scooby-Doo will take the lead in re-introducing this pantheon of enduringly popular animated stars on a grand scale with an exciting new movie."

The animated feature marks a change for Scooby's presence in theaters, as his last two cinematic outings were live action. The live-action Scooby-Doo released in 2002, while a sequel, Monsters Unleashed, came out in 2004. Both were major box-office successes, earning a combined $457 million worldwide.

It featured a computer-generated dog voiced by Neil Fanning in both movies, with actors Freddie Prinze, Jr., Sarah Michelle Gellar, Linda Cardellini, and Matthew Lillard acting alongside it. Since then, Scooby, Shaggy, and the rest of the gang have been seen in animated form on TV and in direct-to-video films.

A planned third film was scrapped by Warner Bros., but two made-for-TV movies - Scooby-Doo! The Mystery Begins and Scooby-Doo! Curse Of The Lake Monster - aired in 2009 and 2010. The original "Scooby-Doo" cartoon created by Hanna-Barbera began airing on TV in 1969, spawning decades of animated series. The most recent, "Be Cool Scooby-Doo!" will air later in 2015.
