In a new development, Vodafone would now be able to offer over broadband pay-TV to its German subscribers with the new accord signed with Deutsche Telekom AG. This new service would broaden its appeal in the most important market in Europe for the British telecommunications firm.
The move, which was first reported by Reuters last April, would stop cuctomers from moving to superfast cable services as well as removes the need for new acquisitions for Vodafone in its largest European consumer base. The German market has become highly competitive because of the entry of new players with differing solutions and services offered.
According to Philipp Humm, head for Northern and Central Europe for Vodafone, "Our agreement with Deutsche Telekom will greatly enhance our ability to offer our German Customers a range of competitive, high speed broadband and TV services."
Vodafone was once a traditional mobile phone company that rents fixed line networks in some markets. It is now feeling the pressure from cable TV companies and telecommunications firms that currently offer a full menu of services for mobile, fixed calls, television and broadband services.
