Dixons to Sell Off PIXmania

By

The second largest electrical goods retailer in Europe, Dixons Retail, said that it was interested in selling off its PIXmania e-commerce business. Should there be no takers for the firm, then it may opt to close the operations altogether.

The group is also related to the Currys and PC World stores in Britain, Elkjop in the Nordic region, Kotsovolos in Greece and UniEuro in Italy. The overall outlook of the firm was higher Thursday after it reported sales at stores open over a year increased by 7% in the fourth quarter of 2012 to April 30, 2013.

With that report, Dixons shares jumped another 6% after doubling in value in the past year.

This was in contrast to PIXmania, operating in France and the Czech Republic as it dragged the financial outlook for the group. It is currently facing many of the deep economic issues that has kept Europe in the financial doldrums for the past year or so.

According to Finance Director Humphrey Singer, in an interview with reporters, "We certainly would be interested in ways in which we could exit through a sale process. It think closure in France is extremely difficult so it is right for us to exploure all the other avenues before we contemplate that, but ultimately that is an option."

This was seconded by CEO Seb James, saying "We think it has some valuable assets as well, so we don't want to just throw things away if we don't have to."
