Linkedin launched Wednesday a new app called Lookup that helps people find their co-workers online more efficiently by searching based on their name, title, education, skills, and experience.
With this new app, employees simply need to sign with their company email address to search and view any worker in the same company who has a LinkedIn account. It doesn't matter if that employee has Lookup or not. It is basically a more efficient searchable employee directory. It has all the basic information in a LinkedIn profile.
It has an additional company email address and cell phone number if they opt to put it in their account. This is very useful for people who work in a large corporation looking for a worker with a specific skill set to work with.
LinkedIn in April when it found out that of all its users, 30% view a co-worker's profile at least once a month. According to a survey conducted by the social media company, only 38 % of professionals utilise the intranets of their companies effectively. 58% said they'd find company intranets more useful if they can find co-workers with particular skills and background conveniently and quickly. 46% of workers prefer to use LinkedIn to look up their co-workers.
The specific details that workers put in Lookup will only be visible to co-workers who use the app because these data will be stored in separate servers. After getting in contact with co-workers, users can send an email or a short message through the app. Users who don't have Lookup will get the messages in their LinkedIn account.
LinkedIn Senior Product Manager Ankit Gupta said, "What we want to do is a very small but important thing - we want to help you find and learn about each other because we believe that will make you more productive."
