The animatronics in Freadbear's Family Diner are set to send chills down everyone's spine in the upcoming Five Nights at Freddy's movie. 'Monster House' director Gil Kenan is officially on board and revealed that he's planning to shoot the movie practically.
As reported by MNR Daily, the 'Monster House' and 'Poltergeist' remake director was handpicked, and has finally signed on to helm the upcoming feature film adaptation of the popular point-click game series. No reports have been released yet pertaining to the film's cast, or release date, but the director shared a couple of hints about the film.
According to Movie News Guide, Kenan revealed that he wants to film the movie practically. Kenan reportedly opted not to have CGI because he wants the creepy robots to be real and unnerving. Aside from that, he also revealed that the film will not repeat the game's narrative but will tell a story "we've never seen before".
As reported by Design & Trend, the film will be set in the lore's larger universe, and will hopefully answer the questions that still lurk inside the gamers' minds. The director also teased about the involvement of the year 1987 in the story.
Other than that, Kenan also revealed that the upcoming film will not only be made for the kids, but for all the Five Nights at Freddy's fans. He also shared that games' creator, Scott Cawthon will be involved in the creation of the film, "I want [Scott] involved in a real way," Kenan said.
The Five Nights at Freddy's games center on a night guard named Mike Schmidt whose mission is to survive the late nights in the Fredbear's Family Diner from the bloodthirsty animatronics. However, in the recently released Five Nights at Freddy's 4, the horror is no longer limited to the workplace, but has been extended to the main character's home.
Roy Lee, Seth Graham-Smith, and David Katzenberg are set to produce Five Nights at Freddy's movie adaptation. More details about the upcoming film are expected to be released in the coming months.
