The Kyodo News agency reported that Softbank Corp is reviewing solar power projects that it is planning to build at the northernmost island of Japan. The plans are being reconsidered as Hokkaido Electric Power Co has not issued its approvals for the company's applications for power sales.
In the meantime, Softbank is considering scrapping plans for three solar stations, where two are located at Abira Town while the other one is in Yakumo, according to the news report. The three plants combined can produce more than 180 megawatts, according to the Kyodo News report, citing unidentified officials in the area.
The company is reconsidering what it would do next. According to Kenichi Yuasa, Softbank spokesman, the company was not the source of the Kyodo report. He then reiterated the plans of the company to build a 110 megawatt plant in Abira and a 2.7 megawatt station in Shiraoi, both in Hokkaido Island.
For its part, Hokkaido Electric said that it may prove difficult to have grid conections once connected capacity for solar plants with output capacities between 2 megawatts until 400 megawatts.
