Filming is set to begin soon for Bourne 5, and Matt Damon recently revealed meaty details pertaining to filming locations. Damon also revealed that the upcoming film was inspired by the Edward Snowden scandal that started in 2013.

Matt Damon is back in the Bourne franchise to reprise his role as Jason Bourne. As reported by Entertainment Weekly, he will be joined by co-star Julia Stiles who is also set to reprise her role as Nicky Parsons, and new cast member Alicia Vikander in a currently undisclosed role. Tommy Lee Jones is also on board, and is rumored to play as a superior CIA officer.

According to Screen Rant, Damon recently revealed that the film will be inspired by the Edward Snowden scandal.

As reported by BBC, the scandal started in 2013 with Snowden, a former CIA systems analyst, who exposed the US National Security Agency's spy programme that delves into extensive phone and internet surveillance. Britain's GCHQ was also linked to the scandal.

Damon said that the story will be set in post-Snowden world. "Without giving too much of it away, it's Bourne through an austerity-riddled Europe and in a post-Snowden world. It seems like enough has changed, you know? There are all these kinds of arguments about spying and civil liberties and the nature of democracy"

The actor also revealed that the movie will have various locations, like the previous films. "We're starting in Greece, you know, the beginning of democracy. And the movie ends in Las Vegas, the most grotesque incarnation of...." Damon said.

Filming for Bourne 5 is set to begin next week with Paul Greengrass back in the director's chair. Damon, Greengrass, and Christopher Rouse are to be credited for the screenplay, and it will be produced by Damon, Greengrass, Gregory Goodman, and Frank Marshall. It is set to hit theaters on July 29, 2016.
