The former Apple CEO John Sculley has opened a new company Obi Worldphone, introducing its SF1 and SJ1.5 android phones intended for developing markets. Both handsets will reportedly arrive in October.
John Sculley has been the Apple's CEO from 1983 to 1993. Now, Sculley has just established a new company, called Obi Worldphone and launched its Obi SF1 and SJ1.5 handsets that are named after San Francisco and San Jose even if they're targeted at emerging markets outside the US, Ars Technica reports.
Android Central noted that the Ammunition reportedly designed the handsets, a San Francisco-based studio whose portfolio involved the design of the original Beats headphones. The report revealed that SF1 is the superior of the two devices, featuring a fiberglass body with metal accents at the top and bottom; it also includes a unique extruded display that's intended to offer extra protection from the occasional fall.
Furthermore, the SF1 reportedly comes in 5-inch full-HD display with Gorilla Glass 4. It also includes Snapdragon 615 SoC, a dual-SIM, an LTE connectivity (Bands 3 and 40, both custom-made for Indian networks), Dolby Audio and 3,000mAh battery.
According to Obi, SF1 will come available having 2GB RAM/16GB storage and a higher-end variant with 3GB of RAM and 32GB internal memory. A 13MP back camera (Sony IMX214 sensor) and f/2.0, and a 5MP selfie camera with LED flash were also enunciated to be built on this SF1 device. Both devices are believed to feature a microSD slot for expanding memory.
On the other hand, the SJ1.5 said to feature an asymmetrical design polycarbonate body, with the top section being flat and the bottom ending in a curve. The device also sports 5-inch 720p display, MediaTek MT6580 SoC with four Cortex A7 cores along with 1GB RAM, 16GB internal memory, and a microSD slot.
The handset also comes packed with a 3,000mAh battery and 3G connectivity. An 8MP rear-camera with OmniVision OV8865 sensor and f/2.2, and5MP front camera are also stated included into this device.
According to CNN Philippines, both handsets will target a younger demographic in select countries in Africa, Southeast Asia and Middle East, to start.
The Obi SF1 with some high-end whistles said to bear a price tag of $200. On the other hand, the Obi SJ1.5 that is all plastic and has a series of colors is said available at $129.
