China's Premier Criticizes EU Move

By

It was no surprise that Chinese Premiere Li Keqiang has criticized the plans of the European Union to investigate the allegations of anti-competitive behaviour conducted by two Chinese mobile telecommunications equipment manufacturers. He also called out the move to place punitive import duties on solar panels exported from China.

According to the official Xinhua news agency, it reported that last Friday, Premiere Li had told business leaders in Switzerland that the measures sought imposed would 'harm others without benefitting one's self.'

The European Union is now reviewing a move to place punitive import restrictions and duties on solar panels imported from China. This comes after the United States imposed its own duties and restrictions last year. The US move was met with severe protests from China.

Premier Li is the highest ranking Chinese official to make a comment on the brewing issue in Europe. China has made overtures that it would take retaliatory economic action should the European Union push through with the investigation.
