Android Wear by LG and Asus can now support iPhone 5 or later iPhone models. The iPhones should run in at least iOS 8.2 to be able to maximize the apps of Android Wear. Third-party watch faces, fitness tracking, and some Android applications are the things that Android smartwatch can offer to iPhones.
An official blog from Google stated the iPhones that are compatible to Android Wear include iPhone 5, 5c, 5s, 6, or 6 Plus that run iOS 8.2+. Further, Mac Rumors said that LG Watch Urbane, soon to be released Huawei Watch and Asus ZenWatch 2, and all future Android Wear smartwatches are the devices that can be used to the mentioned iPhones.
Google's official blog also said that interested users can start maximizing Android Wear to such iPhone models starting August 31. In the report of Mac Rumors, it cited Android apps that are available to compatible iPhone models. These applications include Weather and Translate app, Watch Faces, Fitness Tracking, Notifications, Google Now, and Voice Searches.
Other applications that can be done to iPhones through Android Wear were also discussed in Google's official blog. These apps are more of easier access to helpful information. Interested users can check information like phone calls, messages, and notifications from the favourite apps folder. Another is the ability to keep track on daily and weekly progress of fitness activity. Finally is the ability to receive timely tips such as traffic info, leave for appointments, and flight status.
On the other hand, iOS apps cannot be installed to Android Wear. This serves as a limitation to the use of Android smartwatch to iOS. For interested users who have old smartwatches like Moto 360 and Samsung Gear, Mac Rumours added that users can just do a factory reset on the device to be able to maximize its usage.
The compatibility of Android Wear and the aforementioned iPhone units is an exciting functionality that will interest most people who own such devices.
