‘Horizon: Zero Dawn’ Still a Work in Progress; Beautiful Vistas Revealed in Screenshots

"Horizon: Zero", the game currently in development in Guerilla Games, looks very promising for VG players out there. Based on some recently revealed WIP screenshots of its beautiful vistas, "Horizon: Zero Dawn" has something impressive that gamers need to watch out for.

In the SIGGRAPH 2015 presentation of the game's real-time volumetric cloudscapes, Guerilla Games have shown WIP screenshots of the game's fascinating sceneries. It has been said that the atmosphere featured in the previews will look even much better in the final game. This has reportedly something to do with the dynamic weather system that is currently being worked on, according to Gaming Bolt.

For other artists, the visualization of skies or the clouds in the game may not be too important. But for Andrew Schneider, principal FX artist of Guerilla Games, creating the most realistic clouds in the video game is a minor detail that contributes to the overall impact of its visual.

Schneider wrote in the presentation, "[First person shooters] usually restrict the player to a predefined track, which means that we could hand place elements like clouds using billboards and highly detailed sky domes to create a heavily art directed sky in [Killzone]," reported Kotaku.

For Schneider, the sky nor the world is not just static, but a huge part of the game's landscape. In the presentation, it was also revealed the clouds were carefully designed to look realistic. Different cloud types were reportedly referenced to harmonize with the gameplay's weather, which wll reportedly evolve in the game.

Gear Nuke reports that Guerilla Games is still set to continue improving their volumetric cloudscapes system. They also stated that they are still working on a weather system and an atmospheric model for "Horizon: Zero Dawn", in which the details will be revealed eventually.

"Horizon Zero Dawn" will be launched on PlayStation 4 in 2016. Stay tuned for more updates on its exclusive release.
