The New Apple TV Remote May Feature Wii-Like, Motion-Sensing Controls

By

People are already expecting that Apple will be releasing a new version of the Apple TV this month and that there will be changes made in how one can control it. Aside from having a touchpad and a microphone, as noted in earlier reports, the remote will also be motion sensitive.

For gaming purposes, the Apple TV remote will apparently have built-in Wii-like motion sensors to change its gesture-driven interface. This can be used as a steering wheel for car racing titles, and can be ideal for playing a variety of games. Instead of using a sensor bar with an IR support, the remote control will connect to the Apple TV through Bluetooth, noted 9 to 5 Mac. Because of this, Apple TV's support for its main controls may not include a pointing interface and a system navigation that is similar with Nintendo Wii.

Siri will now be accessible through Apple TV's new controller. The new remote control for the overhauled version of the Apple TV apparently features a Siri microphone, a touchpad area at the top of it, and tactile physical buttons on its bottom half, reported Tech Crunch.

Sources said that apparently, one of the buttons of the remote control is the Home button, while the other one is used to activate the integrated microphone. Once activated, Siri will take charge of controlling the Apple TV. This feature makes it convenient to use the new remote control as apparently, users of the controller can navigate almost everything in the Apple TV using the Siri button.

Motion-controlled games started becoming popular when Nintendo introduced Wii back in 2006. There were talks about Apple coming up with motion control features, as they have filed multiple patent applications in the past five years that are related to motion-sensing inventions. Apple also acquired several companies with expertise motion-control technology, according to iDownload Blog.

Aside from having a new remote control, a Siri support, a gaming focus, and an App Store, the new Apple TV will have an iOS 9 core for its operating system, and a refreshed user interface. This will be launched on Wednesday, September 9, alongside iPhone 6S and iPhone 6S Plus.
