Samsung Galaxy Note 4, S6 to Roll Out Android M on 2016 Upon Release

By

Since Google's official announcement of the new Android operating system, Samsung users are excited to have their smartphones updated to the latest Android M OS. However, Google has not yet released the official source code of the firmware. Samsung advices its users that once it receives the code, it will put out an Android 6.0 Marshmallow update for Galaxy Note 4, Note Edge, and S6 by early 2016.

Recently, the latest Android 5.1.1 Lollipop upgrade has just been released to the Galaxy Note 4. The 5.1.1 update comes with bug fixes and security enhancements. According to The Christian Post, the Android M update for Samsung units might come a bit late considering the length of time that elapsed in the 5.1.1 roll out. Once the source code has been released, it takes about an estimated average of three months for an update to be publicly available.

Gottabemobile says that Google's time frame for the Android M update is in Q3 (from July to September). It is assumed that by November, the OS will be announced at the same time as the unveiling of the new Google LG Nexus 5 and Huawei Nexus. Yet Google says that it is aiming for an early release date of the Android M update by August or September.

However, users need to know that Samsung's Android roll outs typically come much later. What Samsung does is to equip its leading mobile phones first with the latest update, followed by the older models after a few weeks. For this year, the company's flagship devices, Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge, are believed to take the lead in running the Android M.

The Next Digit listed down Samsung's top devices that are likely to receive an Android Marshmallow update in early 2016: Samsung Galaxy Note 5, Galaxy S6 Edge+, Galaxy S6, Galaxy S6 Edge, Galaxy S6 Duos, Galaxy Note 4, Galaxy Note 4 Duos, Galaxy Note Edge, Galaxy ALPHA, and Galaxy Tab A. Even though the Galaxy S5 was not included in the list, it is presumed receive an Android M update as well sooner or later.

Users of the above-mentioned smartphones can expect a variety of new features and developments that come with the Android M update. Among these are app permissions, auto back-up of user's data, Android Pay, fingerprint sensor input, power-saving features to extend battery life, and many more. With all these improvements, one could say that the Android M update would be worth the wait.
