'Kill Your Friends' released its first teaser trailer featuring Nicholas Hoult, who plays the character of Steven Stelfox, a music industry agent who includes murder in his job description.
The promotional release was made last August 24--around a fortnight ahead of its screening in the prestigious Toronto International Film Festival. Hoult, playing the lead role Steven Stelfox, is known for roles such as X-men's Hank McCoy/Beast, Mad Max Fury's Nux and Warm Bodies' lovable zombie named R. In an article by Billboard, Stelfox is dubbed as "the music industry version of Patrick Bateman", 'Kill Your Friends' echoes movies with serial killers and psychotic businessmen as debauched protagonists.
According to Entertainment Weekly, they write that Stelfox "cuts a bloody swath through the music biz much in the same way Christian Bale's Patrick Bateman terrorized yuppie New York in American Psycho." The movie adaptaion is directed by Owen Harris, and stars James Corden, Tom Riley, Ed Skrein Craig Roberts and Patricia Arquette. Niven also writes the script for the film, to ensure that the book translates well into the big screen.
'Kill Your Friends', originally a bestselling book of the same title written by John Niven, features the 1997 Britpop music scene, and Stelfox (Hoult), an A&R rep of a major music label. His strong ambition to get ahead versus the reality that his colleagues are doing better than him in signing breakout artists pushes Stelfox to take further measures and he, literally, takes out the competition.
This trailer is the first glimpse of Nicholas Hoult in action in another challenging role as a psychopathic music rep.The UK premiere of the movie is on November 6, 2015 , with no set release date for the US.
