Michael Shannon addressed buzz about his character, General Zod, being part of the highly anticipated film Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice and completely denies any truth in it.
In a chat he had with The Daily Beast, Shannon puts the rumors to rest saying that he is not part of the movie. He clarifies that the only work he did for Batman V Superman was some voice-over, which he is not sure he should be revealing. Apparently, Zod will have a ghost or an after illusion, which is common in Krypton universe, just like Jor-El in the first film. Shannon further comments that he finds it "awkward" to be in the trailer when he "didn't work on it".
Rumors about his return as part of the cast in Batman V Superman originated some two weeks prior, from Shannon's statements with Vulture. He talked about having flippers for hands in the sequel and being trapped in a Porta Potty on set because of it. The anecdote sparked speculations of Zod coming back as Doomsday, which he now backpedals on entirely. In the same interview with The Daily Beast, he claims that the flipper story was a full-blown joke that people took too seriously.
According to the Screen Rant, it could go either way. It might just have been a joke that was completely misunderstood. It could also be that, despite Shannon backtracking now, the possibility of him being part of the movie is still there. His most recent denial of his casting could be due to "having realized that he inadvertently gave away more information than Warner Bros./DC and/or director Zack Snyder would have preferred."
While Shannon's current stand is that of non-involvement with Batman V Superman, he did comment that in the next installment of the franchise, he's down to work with Zack Snyder again, even wear flipper hands for Doomsday.
The Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice is in its post-production stages. Whether Michael Shannon is truly not a part of the movie will be known when the movie hits theaters on March 25, 2016.
