CBS Sports announced a new feature that allows viewers to watch live NFL games on its portable device, which indicates that it is trying to enter the fast-growing internet market.
It will stream two regular-season games, four playoff games, and of course, the Super Bowl 50, which will be at the Levi's Stadium in Santa Clara, California. All of the streaming will be free without authentication.
Viewers can now live stream National Football Leaguegames from the regular season and playoff through the CBS Sports website and on select connected TV, like Apple TV, Xbox One, Chromecast, and Roku players. The streaming coverage, which includes 2015's Super Bowl, will also be seen on Verizon users' phones.
Besides live streaming NFL games, the CBS Corp-owned firm also features an AFC coverage on their device. It will stream the Wild Card, Divisional, as well as the Championship games.
Online streaming allows viewers to watch their favorite shows and movies without having to pay the expensive cost of cable TV bundles, which is why it is becoming an increasingly popular service.
Besides CBS, Yahoo also struck a deal with NFL to stream games, specifically the match between the Buffalo Bills and the Jacksonville Jaguars on October 25. According to reports, Yahoo paid $20 million to have the right to broadcast the game.
CBS Sports will stream the New York Jets versus Miami Dolphin game in London on October 4. The next game will be between Carolina Panthers and Dallas Cowboys on November 26.
CBS Sports Digital Senior Vice President and General Manager Jeffrey Gerttula said, "We're very excited to offer more NFL ON CBS streaming coverage across more digital platforms than ever before."
"All NFL fans will have access through their computers, tablets, and now Connected TVs to two regular season games for the first time in addition to all of the AFC playoff action, culminating with a truly historic Super Bowl," said Gerttula.
