Emma Watson, who plays Belle in Disney's upcoming 'Beauty and the Beast' film adaptation, takes on another good cause, which is the Green Carpet Challenge or GCC. The challenge endeavors to only support brands and designers who are ethical in terms of labor practice and environmental resources.
The 25 year old Watson, who finished the shooting of Beauty and the Beast five weeks ago, has decided to partner with GCC-approved designers and labels. British Vogue reports that the British actress agreed to exclusively wear these sustainable outfits on the promotional tour of her latest film, Regression.
As reported by The Telegraph, the Beauty and the Beast actress took to Instagram to express that she is "inspired to consider the whole process of creating a fashion look, we are thinking about all the people, pieces and moving parts." Her first photo for the GCC is a rack of clothes that are only from "designers that are considering local craft and production, artisan skills, the environment, sustainability and the longevity of fashion."
Famously known for advocating equality, especially as a UN Women Goodwill Ambassador, it is no wonder that Emma Watson signed up for this campaign when she watched The True Cost by Andrew Morgan, according to Look UK. It documents the dire aftermaths of the Rana Plaza factory collapse in Bangladesh in 2013. Deaths toll rose to 1,130 in that tragic accident.
The future Belle of Disney joins an elite lineup of celebrities that support the Green Carpet Challenge-- Amy Smart, Lily Cole, Carey Mulligan, Helena Bonham Carter, Michael Fassbender and more. These stars say no 'fast fashio'n, which essentially, depletes resources and use expose workers to dangerous chemicals.
Meanwhile, 'The Beauty and the Beast' film is in post-production, and is slated to hit theatres on March 17, 2017. Disney has yet to release teasers or leak pictures yet (only Josh Gad and Luke Evans' wrap up picture on set). For now, Emma Watson will surely be seen regularly donning her Green Carpet Challenge approved wardrobe while touring for her films.
