Alongside the development of a sequel movie for the Netflix's "Daredevil" TV series, Marvel also announced the addition of a new character - The Punisher. Now, Jon Bernthal, "The Walking Dead" actor (Shane Walsh), was chosen to portray the role.
On Thursday, Bernthal uploaded a photo with a collection of weapons in his background on his official Twitter account. It seemed that he was in a secret hideaway while shooting his role in the film. He captioned the photo with the single world "PUNISH", giving an obvious clue about his violent and dangerous character.
Marco Ramirez, the showrunner, spilled that Jon Bernthal will be playing a huge and important role to counteract Charlie Cox's title character, according to an article on MovieWeb. The struggle about the Daredevil's no-killing policy in the first season was reiterated saying that "The Punisher" will only be responsible for man-hunting the criminals.
Although his controversial figure seems like a mortal enemy, it says otherwise. International Business Times reported that the new character will not only be fighting against the culprit but also he will be killing them. Bernthal's role will not be the primary villain. But, no one knows who will be the main villain for season two.
Aside from the first post, Bernthal has also shared another post while holding a "Punisher" comic book before. It seemed like he was busily reviewing in preparation for his upcoming role.
According to an article on Den of Geek, the remaining character in the last season will still be seen on the next season. Elodie Yung (GI Joe: Retaliation) will portray as Elektra. Her important role may bring the audiences back to her romantic past with Matt Murdock and to the present as a mercenary assassin.
Rosario Dawson will also be back in Daredevil season two as Claire Temple (Night Nurse). Jeph Loeb, the executive producer and the head of Marvel TV, said she proved to be the fans' favorite character in season one. He wanted the fans to see all the plans for her in the next season.
Meanwhile, Charlie Cox declared that "Daredevil" Season 2 will be out anytime next year.
