Last Wednesday, Kommersant Daily reported that MTS is in discussion to acquire Akado, a major broadband and cable television provider in Russia. This is a drive MTS is taking to further expand its footprint in the Moscow region.

Akado is owned by businessman Yuri Pripachkin and its majority by Russia's tycoon Viktor Vekselberg's Group.

The paper also added information from a source that MTS has officially made its offer for a deal to the shareholders in Akado. Kommersant further said that Akado's owners value the company more than US$1 billion from last year.

Akado was not immediately available to comment on said report while MTS declined to give a statement. If the acquisition pursues, this would mean that MTS is to take control of more than 50% of the broadband pay-TV industry in Moscow, Russia. On the other end, rival Vimpelcom controls 22.7% of pay-TV market still according to the same newspaper.
