The uTorrent app for Android Lollipop allows direct downloads of torrent files from mobile phones while the remote control app is available for both Android and iOS 9 devices. The team behind uTorrent now considers monetizing the software to boost its revenue.
As per Venture Beat, uTorrent was originally created in 2005 by Ludvig Strigeus. It was purchased a year later by the peer-based company BitTorrent which took the app forward. Since then, uTorrent has become one of the most widely used torrent downloaders in the world. As of April 2015, BitTorrent reached a milestone of 100 million downloads thanks to its Utorrent options for several platforms.
The Rem reports that uTorrent is currently available on Android, Mac OS, and Windows platforms. It is hailed as the #1 torrent app in Google Play Store and the #1 BitTorrent client on desktops worldwide with 150 million monthly users.
Aside from allowing torrents and magnet links to be directly downloaded from smartphones, the uTorrent app for Android Lollipop has an integrated media library for audio and video playback. It features minimal design, a Wi-Fi only mode to save data, and direct access to BitTorrent bundles. The Pro version has no ads and offers Auto-shutdown feature for battery preservation.
The uTorrent app for Android Lollipop is fairly easy to use. The user first searches for torrent files and magnet links. uTorrent then opens and downloads the files. After download, its integrated media player plays back music and audio files.
There is also a uTorrent Remote for Android Lollipop, a simple and secure app used for remotely accessing a uTorrent application on a desktop. The user needs to create an account to be able to check download progress and RSS feeds.
Being a closed-source platform, Apple does not allow software like uTorrent to operate in its system. However, the uTorrent remote control for iOS is available for iOS 9. Just like the remote control for Android Lollipop, the latest version of uTorrent remote control for iOS 9 allows remote access to a Windows desktop or Mac through a smartphone device.
To keep uTorrent free, the team behind it previously used software bundles. However, they are now planning to charge uTorrent users for downloads to improve revenue and user experience as reported by Tech Frag.
The uTorrent team assures its customers to provide alternatives for every budget. Yet, it may cause great dissatisfaction among millions of users who consider the fact that uTorrent is free to be one of its most defining factors.
