'Trainspotting' Sequel Cast Update: Danny Boyle spills some spoilers; 4 main actors to reprise their roles

After 20 years, "Trainspotting" was finally given the attention again. Director Danny Boyle, the same director who directed the movie in 1996, officially announced the development of a sequel film just after the gala night at the Telluride Film Festival.

Deadline reported that the director admitted that it was not easy for him to gather the old characters who starred in the first film back together. According to him, the filming depends on the availability of the original stars, Ewan McGregor, Robert Carlyle, Johnny Lee Miller, Ewen Bremner, Kelly Macdonald, and Kevin McKidd, whose character died in the movie. Besides, "Trainspotting 2" will be Boyle's next film.

"All the four main actors want to come back and do it," he said. "Now it is only a matter of getting all their schedules together which is complicated by two of them doing American TV series."

According to an article on Rolling Stone, the sequel will be based on the original sequel novel, "Porno", written by the "Trainspotting" author, Irvine Welsh, in 2002. If "Trainspotting 2" will follow the novel story, the four original characters will be finding their way into the site of advanced Pornography. Moreover, John Hodge has already started the progress of the sequel script draft.

Robert Carlyle admitted during an interview on Mirror that adapting with the sequel is going to be complicated. He also mentioned that "Porno" has so much to do with internet pornography.

"Danny always said he wants us all to be 20 years older because the book (Trainspotting sequel Porno) is set 20 years later," Carlyle said.

However, Ewan McGregor, Ewen Bremner, Johnny Lee Miller, and Robert Carlyle have all agreed to replay their roles for the upcoming sequel film.

"Trainspotting" talked about the drug addiction and delinquency of the main characters leading them to do crimes, injustices and imprisonment at an early age. It also focused on the sexually transmitted disease, HIV, which caused the death of one of their friends. Now, as the title suggests, the sequel will focus on Pornography.
