Assassin's Creed Movie Update: Michael Fassbender's look, characters, other details revealed; Ubisoft Theme Park to open in 2020

As the first look to Michael Fassbender's character was revealed, Ubisoft also updated fans on several details regarding the movie. The company also announced an Assassin's Creed theme park to open in 2020.

According to UbiBlog, a news outlet for Ubisoft, Assassin's Creed head of content Azaïzia Aymar answered questions about the film. He revealed that Fassbender will be playing Aguilar, the new Assassin created specifically for the film. Staying true to the videogame series, he has a new modern day counterpart - Fassbender will also be playing Callum Lynch, who learns that he is connected to Aguilar via genetic memories.

Aymar also says that they are trying to please both fans of the series and newcomers by "creating a new story but staying in [the Assassin's Creed] universe." Described as very different from Desmond, Clay or Daniel Cross, original character Aguilar/Lynch is helping "expand the lore" with this "elegant story."

In an exclusive with Yahoo! Movies, Assassin's Creed unveiled Fassbender's first look of the assassin which is designed to be "a nomadic warrior personification." Sammy Sheldon Differ, costume designer and his team has the goal of staying true to the historically-slanted visual style of the series. Thus, Aguilar wasgiven the look of 15th century Spain, along "with its strong influences of Moorish deco."

Ubisoft also announced a theme park based on the Assassin's Creed, Rabbids and Just Dance properties. According to IGN, the 10,000 square meter park will open around 2020 in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. This plan takes its cue from the company's Rabbids Dark Ride at French park Futuroscope.

Aiming to feel like a game brought to life, Jean de Rivières, senior vice president of Ubisoft Motion Pictures says the plan is to have "a place where every guest is a player, every ride is a playground, every visit is a game."

Assassin's Creed stars Michael Fassbender, Marion Cotillard, Michael Kenneth Williams, and Ariane Labed, and is directed by Justin Kurzel, the director of MacBeth. Interestingly, Kurzel directed Fassbender and Cotillard in the upcoming Oscar-bait Macbeth.

With major Assassin's Creed movie updates and an announcement of a new theme park, Ubisoft's wave of promotions and market expansion is strongly underway before the Dec 21, 2016 release of the film. More news and inside look at the characters are expected as the film has started shooting in Malta (London and Spain next) last August 31.
