IFC midnight has confirmed that they are licensed to reboot Eli Roth's 2002 film, "Cabin Fever". They acquire the US rights to the film and on behalf of the filmmakers, the deal was settled with the WME Global. Also, a new director has been named.
After eight years of directorial absence, Travis Zariwny is the newly assigned director for "Cabin Fever" reboot together with Eli Roth, the former director, to be the executive producer. The script was also penned by Roth and the original Cabin Fever co-writer, Randy Pearlstein.
A statement from the movie director, Travis Zariwny was quoted in an article on MovieWeb. In the statement, Travis Z. expressed himself, talked about entrusting him the film and promised to never fail everyone's expectations.
"It was a great opportunity to recreate an iconic film for a new generation of horror fans. I am a die-hard fan of horror films and the king of horror Eli Roth trusted me to re-imagine his film. I was not going to fail."
The Variety mentioned that the upcoming movie will be based from the original storyline about the five college students, Jeff, Marcy, Paul, Karen and Burt, who acquired a flesh-eating virus which caught the attention of the murderous locals. Back in 2002, the movie hit up a total of $30 million worldwide.
Moreover, The Hollywood Reporter mentioned that the casting has already been filled out. The five new stars that will play the roles of the main characters are as follows: Gage Golightly (Teen Wolf), Dustin Ingram (True Blood), Samuel Davis (From Dusk till Dawn: The Series), Matthew Daddario (Delivery Man) and, Nadine Crocker (Dead Girl).
Evan Astrowsky, (who also produced the original film with Roth), Chris Lemole and Tim Zajaros will be the producers of the film. Aside from Eli Roth, the executive producers are Cassian Elwes, Ike Suri and Jaclyn Ann Suri, and Peter Fruchtman.
AMC Networks owns and operates IFC Midnight which is a sister label to IFC Films. The film is scheduled to be out in 2016.
