When The Good Wife returns for its 7th season, an almost true-to-life presidential campaign will be featured as Peter Florrick (Chris North) goes up against Hillary Clinton in the Democratic presidential race.
Christian Post reports that EP and co-creator Greg King says of the parallel, "The Iowa Caucus happens [on Feb. 1], it's going to happen in our show. We're trying to parallel what's happening on our show with what's happening in reality. The difficult thing for us is we started writing these scripts in June, so you're always kind of guessing where things are going".
Christine Baranski, who plays Diane Lockhart in the political drama series, shares in an interview with Deadline about Alicia's (Julianna Margulies) ambivalence about her husband's vying for the presidency. However, the first official trailer for season 7 clearly shows her helping in his campaign. Baranski added that Alicia will try to move on after a political scandal that made her lose her position as State Attorney.
This coming season will see Alicia going back to what for her is the most important part of her being and that is to practice law. She establishes a new law firm and starts with the bond court.
TV Line reports that she may get romantically involved with the investigator she hired for the firm. Jeffrey Dean Morgan has been signed on to play the "new Kalinda" and in the same article says any romance between the two characters are mere speculations at this point.
However, King seems to be sure of the romance happening when asked. Alicia's Catholic girl upbringing will hold her back though from having a full blown extramarital affair. Also, Peter's campaign will further complicate matters as he needs Alicia by his side to maintain a good public reputation.
Two main characters, Kalinda Sharman and Finn Polma, will not be returning for the new season. New characters were added to the cast including Jason Crouse, the private investigator Jeffrey Dean Morgan will be playing.
Peter Gallagher was also signed on as the witty and sophisticated Atty. Irving Carter who will represent the conservative billionaire Reese Dipple.
Ruth Eastman (Margo Martindale) will be Peter's new campaign strategist who will go head-to-head with his chief-of-staff, Eli Gold (Allan Cumming).
Alicia will also have to compete with Atty. Luca Quinn (Cush Jumbo) for clients seeking bail in the bond court.
To say that it will be a busy time for the characters of The Good Wife is apparently an understatement. Be sure to watch the Season 7 premiere on October 4 on CBS.
